The first of the exciting 2012 developments is that I have been asked to write a regular guest blog for skytemedia, a web design company that's been going since 2006. Josh Gutteridge, the creative director, asked me to start out by introducing myself, and then over the next weeks (and hopefully months!) to post about photographic techniques, specialities, styles, locations, and generally being a freelance photographer. I am so excited about this opportunity to share my passion and explore the theory behind the practice in written form, and am looking forward to putting MOL's dexterity to use in a new environment. It's been a bit quiet here on the MOL blog, which admittedly is for some very good (happy!) reasons, but things are gradually starting to calm down, so more frequent updates are likely to start flowing in this month. There are some exciting things coming up for 2012, the first of which begins tomorrow, so look out for a post around lunch time, GMT. On top of that, there's a new "limb" in the form of a beautiful Nikon, so I'm becoming better friends with her right now, and getting to grips with the new layout and functionality of a higher-end camera.

My 365 project has reached 100 images today! I am trying to do one photo of me per day, every day, for a year. This is partly to ensure I am always trying to be creative (although this sometimes fails!), and also to get used to being on the other side of the camera - so I have a greater empathy and better sense of how to direct people that I am shooting. The other reason I chose "me" as a subject was because it was the one constant (or at least my face would/should be) that I could rely on over the course of the year, as so much else was and will be changing. It may be that I add in an extra theme week by week (hair styles, poses, places, colours) to change it up a bit over the next 265 days, but for now, here are the first 100.

Out On A Limb

Recently, My Other Limb has been a little quiet. In fact, this entire year, MOL has been rather more infrequently active than usual and, unless you are a friend, Facebook acquaintance, or follow my second blog (Queen's English), then the reason that that has been the case may not have been obvious.

Just under three weeks ago, I emigrated to America to be with, and marry, the man I love. I gush about this plenty on Queen's English and, what with this being a photo blog and only a photo blog (except for the odd written post like this one), that's all I'm going to say on the matter here. But this whole year has been flying by in a whirlwind of planning, visa application forms, a summer in England with aforementioned almost-husband, and then the practicalities of the actual move itself. This is why MOL has been so quiet during 2011.

The reason I'm posting now is to say that, other than a few other visa-related loose ends and just a smidgen of last-minute wedding planning, I'm back, and have been attached to My Other Limb just the same as always, so new photos will be winging their way to the interwebs over the coming weeks. On top of that, I have an exciting opportunity coming up: an internship with a brilliant photographer here in Charlotte, NC, and am now looking around for other internship opportunities for December and the new year, too. I'm determined to give MOL a shot at being the job (or at least one of them!), rather than the hobby, and am lucky to have the chance to do this now. Not being allowed to do paid work until our marriage paperwork and my green card come through (which will be about March/April 2012) is being treated as a blessing in disguise and, though I am a little apprehensive about all of the new learning that's ahead of me, - both photographic and cultural, I might add! - me and My Other Limb are raring to go.
